Caring for your Scissors

Your scissors are your most important and most expensive tools. Prevent unnecessary damage and extend the life or your scissors.

  • Your scissors must only be used for cutting hair.
  • Oil your scissors regularly with a scissor oil. Apply to screw head at the pivot and on the blades. Wipe with a clean soft cloth.
  • Proper pressure on the blades is important for best performance. Too loose will cause hair to fold between blades and can cause nicks. Too tight will cause excess wear and scissors will become dull faster.
  • Replace missing bumpers between handles as soon as possible. Worn out or missing bumpers cause excess damage to tips.
  • Get your scissors sharpened every 4 months for optimal hair cutting and lasting life of blade.
The average stylist gets their scissors sharpened every six months, although some busy stylists get theirs done every three months.
